Celebrating International Day for Women in Maritime

The Virginia Maritime Association celebrated International Day for Women in Maritime with two Coffee Connect gatherings held at the Tech Center Research Park in Newport News and Nauticus in Norfolk. Nearly 90 attendees joined the events, bringing together women from across Virginia’s maritime and supply chain industries for meaningful conversations, new connections, and shared perspectives on the future of the industry.

Observed annually on May 18, International Day for Women in Maritime was established by the International Maritime Organization to recognize and promote the contributions of women in the maritime sector while encouraging greater participation, visibility, and leadership opportunities across the industry worldwide.

Attendees represented a wide range of organizations and career paths across the maritime community, creating opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen professional relationships. The conversations reflected the growing leadership, innovation, and influence women continue to bring to every corner of the maritime industry.

VMA extends sincere thanks to the event sponsors whose support helped make the celebrations possible: CV International, Insperity, Nauticus, Old Dominion University, Tech Center Research Park, and Virginia Tech Newport News Center.

A powerful transformation is continuing across the maritime industry as more women lead, innovate, and help shape the future of global trade, logistics, ports, and supply chains. International Day for Women in Maritime serves as an important reminder to recognize the trailblazers, innovators, and champions of change who are inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
