Maritime Summer Camp, Industry Volunteers Needed

NEWPORT NEWS, VA |Old Dominion University's Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center (BCIOC), located in Newport News, VA, is hosting a maritime summer camp and we need your help! As you know, exposure to exciting career fields needs to happen in K-12. This is a great opportunity to volunteer & expose your company/industry to the next generation of the workforce.

What is the summer camp? Maritime Engineering and Environmental Studies Academy (MEESA) summer camp is for 25-30 rising 9th and 10th graders, structured to increase interest in maritime careers. During the camp, students will tackle important problems that the maritime industry is facing, including environmental impacts, security risks, supply chain issues, and challenges with shipping & logistics. Students will be tasked with creating a solution to one maritime-related problem and will be introduced to skills such as additive manufacturing, laser cutting, robotics, coding, and electrical engineering, among others, to help them find solutions to their assigned problems. Volunteers are needed from all aspects of maritime, including operations, environmental sustainment, supply chain, logistics, engineering, marketing, shipbuilding/repair, communications, cybersecurity, & more!
